Ever since the train burst out of the station and into my face during Ra One (I watched it in 3D), I wanted to go gawk at Victoria Terminus, henceforth referred to as Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus to avoid offending those Marathi manoos who make a livelihood out of getting offended at things. Age, Mumbai rains and lack of proper maintenance have left this grand Gothic structure a shadow of its former self, but it is an imposing sight nevertheless, with its turrets and dome and Lady Liberty-like statue atop the dome. It seems to be a favorite background for journalists reporting on Mumbai stories- I walked past reporters from three different news channels getting agitated about the Mumbai Corporation’s lack of preparedness for the rains. Inside, the station is stuffy and crowded and looks and feels exactly like Sealdah Station in Kolkata (though the roof resembles Howrah Station). Oh Mumbai, you are so much like Kolkata!
